Entropy-19 brings together the works of 22 Fine Art students at the University of Derby. Each artist has been developing their practice over the last three years, and in this exhibition space they present a final synthesis of resolutions. This exhibition exists as an extension of ‘Entropy’, an exhibition that was unable to take place physically in 2020 due to the current global pandemic. Entropy-19 is also affected, as the exhibition space cannot be visited by the public. This online platform is therefore a way for more people to experience the exhibition, both nationally and internationally, in a personal and exploratory way.

Entropy-19 explores ideas around the lack of order or predictability, especially in these uncertain times. Each artist has had to adapt their practice to fit to government and university guidelines. They have had to create works in their homes while the studios have been closed, experiment with using new media, downscale their work, and find new sources of inspiration while galleries have been closed. Not only has the way in which the artists work been affected, but also the content of the work, as some artists have chosen to respond to the pandemic through their work.

We hope you enjoy viewing the works within this exhibition. There will be links to artist's websites and social media so you can check out more of their work and see what they're up to. There is also a link to our publication and Instagram if you wish to explore further.
